The Black Fish is an international marine conservation movement on a mission to end the industrial overfishing of our oceans. Through investigation and action we work to expose and challenge illegal and destructive fishing practices. Our grass-roots campaigns and educational projects are aimed at empowering individuals to get actively involved in conservation work and help build grass-roots citizen-led conservation communities. Join us today and help realise a future for threatened species in our oceans.
Illegal overfishing is a truly global problem, threatening fish populations and causing major destruction to the marine biodiversity. Now researchers estimate that the global illegal catch and trade of fish is worth a staggering $23.5bn annually. In some fisheries, illegally caught fish is believed to constitute for over half of the total catch.
Science estimates that if current levels of fishing continue, we will be left with an empty ocean by 2048. Fishing crime threatens life and needs to become a political priority. The Black Fish addresses the complexity and urgency of this situation and gives ordinary people a chance to act.
