Safari Sauces is based in South Shields (North East UK near Newcastle) and myself (Sue) and my Husband (James) produce/make the Sauces ourselves. James grew up in South Africa and has very fond memories of all the wonderful flavours used in African cooking (and of course enjoyed a number of Safari’s) and this has been the main influence for our sauce range.
Here is a little bit more information about each of our delicious sauces to get your tastebuds twitching before Newcastle Vegan Fest even begins!! Please come and see us on the day though and give them a try!! We will have even more Sauces for you to try by July including Cocopan (a chilli chocolate sauce not too sweet or too spicy) as well as our Ultra Hot HELLFIRE (made with Caroline Reaper chillies – the hottest chillies in the world)……….. it’s a wee bit warm!!
See you in July, Sue & James @ Safari Sauces
Our Range
ZULU SUSU (mild) 250 ml – The taste of Africa with none of the spice. Zulu SuSu was created with those of a more delicate persuasion in mind. It contains absolutely no chilli, in fact the spiciest ingredient is a little black pepper.
CHAKALAKA (medium) 250 ml – Fresh and zingy with just more than a hint of spice. Our Chakalaka sauce is based on a traditional African vegetable dish of the same name and was the first sauce we developed for our event catering stall. To bring some African sunshine into your life remember to do the Chakalaka shake before opening!
MUTI (hot) 250 ml (pronounced Mooti) – Dark, spiced and growling. Muti is the n’yanga word for medicine derived from the Zulu word for tree. It’s made with plenty of African Birds Eye and red chillies and while hot, still has plenty of Safari flavour depth to keep non chilli fans intrigued.
THE TOKOLOSHE (extra hot) 100 ml – Named after a small South African demon whose deeds range from mischievous to evil. Our Tokoloshe does the same depending on your chilli tolerance but this one’s definitely not for beginners.
It’s made from Naga Ghost Chillies, Moruga Trinidad Scorpion Chillies, African Birds Eye Chillies, oh, and Kenyan Bullet Chillies. A little goes a long way here and even a small amount can impart that great Naga taste to curries, soups and savoury scones (yes, someone tried it).
All of our sauces are artificial colour/preservative free and vegetarian and vegan friendly. The sauces contain no allergens (with the exception of Muti, which contains some Soy). It’s probably also worth mentioning that we make our sauces with quality ingredients and fresh chillies, we do not use chilli powders or extracts, something our customers have noticed and appreciate.

We are Blueberry Swirl bakery. Blueberry Swirl bakery is a completely vegan bakery, offering tasty animal friendly products.
Blueberry Swirl was founded by Kirsty Hatton, vegan of over 6 years. The bakery arose after Kirsty realised just how many vegans feel that they had to say goodbye to their favorite treats after making the great decision to transition to a vegan lifestyle. We believe that nobody should miss out just because of their beliefs or dietary restrictions and have therefore tried and tested many recipes to bring you fluffy, flavourful cakes.
We also create a range of Gluten Free products, along with nut free, soy free and palm oil free delights to suit all.
