We try and make our annual events bigger and better than the previous year, and this year is no exception. The Newcastle Vegan Festival 2017 has more stalls, speakers and has had more media coverage than any event before it, all this alongside our special guest Heather Mills, has gave the Newcastle Vegan Festival 2017 the makings of one amazing day out for the family. As I have said before, you don’t need 5 reasons to visit a vegan festival, the fact that we are supporting the largest movement in the world is reason enough, but all the same here are 5 big reasons…
1. Award Nominated Vegan Festival
Vegan Festival UK has been recently nominated for BEST LIVE EXPERIENCE at the Tyne & Wear Lifestyle Awards 2016, this is obviously a huge honour not only because of the public nominating us, but being a chosen as a finalist from hundreds of other amazing events throughout the region.
Our last event in Aberdeen Vegan Festival only last week was an spectacular event, the footfall was amazing (several thousand), ticket sales show that Newcastle upon Tyne Vegan Festival 2017 is on course for record attendance.
2. Amazing Vegan Businesses
This year we have a huge selection of vegan business’s coming from across the UK. If you have ever been to one of our festivals before you may recognize some of our business’s, but this year we have many new companies you may have never heard of. If you are not vegan or vegetarian you will soon realise that removing animal products from our lives, is easier than you think. Come and talk to these amazing companies, maybe taste / try some of there fabulous products and support the vegan movement.
This is what stall holders had to say about our previous event.
3. Awesome Vegan Speakers
Hanna Sillitoe (1.15pm – 2pm), author of best selling book Radiant explains how this 100% natural approach to healing skin cured her psoriasis, eczema and acne for life.
Elizabeth King (11am – 12pm) has been vegan for 12 years and is an active campaigner, helping to run local and national vegan outreach events and workshops for the Vegan Approach. She also delivers talks about vegan nutrition and her aim is to help people to become happy and healthy vegans.
We are very very excited to have animal rights activist, paralympic skier, 5 times world record holder, business woman, motivational and inspirational speaker Heather Mills (2:30pm onwards) to our vegan festival in Newcastle upon Tyne this summer.
In 2003, the Open University awarded her an honorary doctorate for her philanthropic work on behalf of amputees. She continues to campaign, in addition to promoting the distribution of prostheses around the world and has been involved with the development of the Heather Mills McCartney Cosmesis, which gives amputees in America the chance to wear a Dorset Orthopaedic cosmesis, without having to travel to the UK. Heather Mills is also vice-president of the Limbless Association. In 2004, she received a “Children in Need” award from the annual International Charity Gala in Düsseldorf and in the same year, the University of California, Irvine, gave her their 2004 Human Security Award and created the Heather Mills McCartney Fellowship in Human Security to support graduate students conducting research on pressing human security issues. She is a former Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Association Adopt-A-Minefield programme.
After her superb talk at Aberdeen Vegan Festival last month, we have just added guest speaker Fiona Oakes to our line up, Fiona is a British marathon runner, who holds three world records for marathon running.
In 2013, she won both the Antarctic Ice Marathon and the North Pole Marathon. She runs despite losing a knee cap from an illness when she was 17. Fiona has been vegan since 6 years old. She runs Tower Hill Stables Animal Sanctuary and is a patron of the Captive Animals Protection Society. Fiona works long hours on a sanctuary that she runs almost single-handedly, on which she cares for 400 animals including horses, pigs, sheep and dogs. She also fundraise’s for the sanctuary, for which the food bill is over £5000 per month, and for other animal issues. Typical working days start before dawn and end around 8pm on her sanctuary in Essex, UK.
4. Some Free Vegan Stuff
As with our previous festivals the stall holders encourage you to try their wares, this normally comes in the form of food tasting or drinks. This year we will be handing some vegan goodies and vouchers to vegan restaurants in the area. As with most things that are free – first come first served.
5. Newcastle Is One Amazing City
If your travelling from outside the area and find yourself at a loose end after the festival, why not pop along to one of the regions best vegan restaurants. The Super Natural Cafe has an amazing selection of vegan options, or the Bohemian restaurant both of these fabulous places are only minutes away from our venue. Our venue is located in the heart of the city and is also 2 minutes walk from the central station.
