Some would say you don’t need 5 reasons to visit a vegan festival, the fact that we are supporting the largest movements in the world is reason enough, but all the same here are 5 big reasons…

1. Award Nominated Vegan Festival

Vegan Festival UK has been recently nominated for BEST LIVE EXPERIENCE at the Tyne & Wear Lifestyle Awards 2016, this is obviously a huge honour not only because of the public nominating us, but being a chosen as a finalist from hundreds of other amazing events.

Last years Edinburgh Vegan Festival was a EPIC event, footfall was amazing (several thousand) and Edinburgh Vegan Festival is on course to be even bigger. So we must be doing something right..

2. Amazing Vegan Businesses

This year we have a huge selection of vegan business’s coming from across the UK. If you have ever been to one of our festivals before you may recognize some of our business’s, but this year we have many new companies you may have never heard of. If you are not vegan or vegetarian you will soon realise that removing animal products from our lives, is easier than you think.  Come and talk to these amazing companies, maybe taste / try some of there fabulous products and support the vegan movement.

3. Awesome Vegan Speakers

Any self respecting vegan festival must have a speaker or two. The Aberdeen Vegan Festival 2017 will not disappoint in this department. Our lineup this year will include Fiona Oakes a British marathon runner, who holds three world records for marathon running.

In 2013, she won both the Antarctic Ice Marathon and the North Pole Marathon. She runs despite losing a knee cap from an illness when she was 17.  Fiona has been vegan since 6 years old. She runs Tower Hill Stables Animal Sanctuary and is a patron of the Captive Animals Protection Society. Fiona works long hours on a sanctuary that she runs almost single-handedly, on which she cares for 400 animals including horses, pigs, sheep and dogs. She also fundraise’s for the sanctuary, for which the food bill is over £5000 per month, and for other animal issues. Typical working days start before dawn and end around 8pm on her sanctuary in Essex, UK.

Grampian Hunt Sabs will be doing a talk about fox hunting in Scotland and how hunt sabs are taking direct non-violent action to stop hunts from breaking the law and saving wildlife. With Fox hunting being such a hot topic in Scotland right now we will educate people about how Fox hunting is still going on in Scotland and how the current ban fails the foxes and other wildlife that are killed in the name of sport.” This talk is 100% free when you attend Aberdeen vegan festival.

Go Vegan Scotland – Peaceable Kingdom

Peaceable Kingdom, produced in 2004 by Tribe of Heart, is a documentary about several farmers who refuse to kill animals and how they convert to veganism as a way of life.A newer version of the film premiered in 2009 called Peaceable Kingdom: The Journey Home which featured different people. On the Tribe of Heart website for the 2009 film, there is no apparent mention of the 2004 movie.The 2004 film tells the story of how the farmers create an animal sanctuary farm called “Farm Sanctuary” where they rescue injured animals, half dead, abandoned, and rejected by the farm industry for not being productive. A few examples are a cow with mastitis or newborn chicks unfit for production.It has won awards such as the Festival Theme Award of the Ojai Film Festival in 2004, with music by Moby. Images of exploitations are shown during the film.

4. Some Free Vegan Stuff

As with our previous festivals the stall holders encourage you to try their wares, this normally comes in the form of food tasting or drinks. This year we will be handing some vegan goodies and vouchers to vegan restaurants in the area. As with most things that are free – first come first served.
