This interesting video shows how government in the US have influenced the way we see dairy, no doubt the UK government are no less guilt. Despite the fact that one can get their daily recommendation of calcium, potassium, and protein from fruits and vegetables, the dairy industry has spent billions of dollars to convince consumers otherwise. Got Milk? We sure hope not.
Despite being a somewhat tasty addition to coffee, tea, and delectable treats, the ingredient – when pasteurized – is highly toxic to the human body. In fact, physicians such as Dr. Willet, who has conducted many studies and reviewed the research on the topic, believe milk to be more of a detriment to the human body than an aid.
Considering that approximately 3/4 of the world’s population is unable to digest milk and other dairy products, it seems clear the food is not an ideal substance for consumption. However, the average consumer doesn’t know this. From celebrity endorsements to advertisements by the dairy industry, most have been taught to believe that dairy is an ideal food for optimum health.
Consider a more ethical, healthier and altogether suppirior alternative, there is enough to choose from.
I thought we would share this amazing story that I have just heard about. A daisy business that has been producing dairy products for over 90 years has seen the future and it does not look good, so they have moved from the darkside to a cruelty free alternative.
Elmhurst Dairy in Queens New York has ceased it’s dairy operation after 90 years citing decreased customer demand. CEO Henry Schwartz said the company has been operating at a high cost in recent years and revealed that “Pasteurized fluid milk has sort of gone out of style.”, “we are unable to continue to go on without ongoing losses.” “There isn’t much room for our kind of business. I tried to keep this open because it was my father’s plant and he asked me to do so.” The shutdown reflects ongoing trends in the dairy milk business: increasing consumer awareness of the treatment of cows in the milk industry as well as consumer concern about saturated fat, cholesterol and hormones is leading to declining sales. Lets hope the company changes its name to something more appropriate.
The Mirror newspaper reports that the dairy industry is taking a beating, and lays the blame with teenagers.
Dairy UK chairman David Dobbin said farmers were facing a big drop in demand for milk as Mintel figures revealed 93% of over 55s in Britain drink milk compared with 81% of 16 to 34-year-olds.
And a Kantar Worldpanel study found the over 65’s drink milk 875 times a year compared with five to 24-year-old’s who have a glass just 275 times a year.
Since June 2013, more than 1,000 dairy farms have closed in England and Wales as a milk lakes sent prices plummeting.
A Dairy UK spokesperson said the industry was facing “serious issues from anti-dairy groups or plant-based food companies.”
